Stress is undoubtedly one of today’s most burdensome problems. With its damaging power, this 21st century condition is affecting more and more people all over the world, unable to come up with a proper remedy so far. Stress is sadly ever-present and extremely harmful through its manifold shapes, creating various, difficult to overcome problems, including major health problems. Scientists have carried out elaborate studies and have proven that the number of stress related diseases is alarmingly increasing, making it one of the most common and at the same destructive affections of the millennium. Many claim that the rhythm of our lives, the evermore challenging obstacles we have to face every single day, from family to work burdens, the pursuit of happiness only through financial means is slowly devitalizing us, leaving little room for the crucial peace of mind. Both our bodies and minds, pushed constantly to the limit usually for delusive goals, are starting to fail us. Concerned with human’s damaging lifestyle, specialists have sounded the alarm and warned of the imminent dangers of this complex affection. If we want to lead a long, healthy life, we need to quickly throw our current way of living into the melting pot.

Stress is a contributing factor to the aggravation of numerous medical conditions. Studies carried out by renowned researchers have indicated that this 21st century affection is responsible for the exacerbation of many health problems, such as heart disease, obesity, gastrointestinal problems, diabetes, sexual nature problems and of course depression. It may seem highly unlikely that stress can lead to the development of so many and at the same different medical conditions, but it’s a scientifically proven fact. According to specialists, when we have to deal with a stressful situation, regardless of the nature of the problem, our body reacts in certain manners that affect our health: our blood vessels contract, our pulse and arterial pressure start going up, we begin breathing faster and faster. Of course, nobody is a stranger to this kind of situation. Just think about what emotions and worries you have to endure, how many ravaging thoughts go through your mind every time you have a job interview, every time you sit nervously in that waiting room imagining all possible scenarios. Or when you spend more than half your day on the job, you work overtime and at the end of the month you earn a lousy salary that hardly covers the bare necessities of life. All these situations contribute to the exacerbation of health problems and it’s advisable to make some changes, if we want to enjoy a peaceful life.

How to attack this problem, how to confute stress? Well, the solutions are simple, non-scientific and involve a strong will. So, whenever you feel stressed, the first thing you do is to breathe deeply, in a way that will relax you and the muscles in your body. Second of all, don’t worry about what has just happened or about what could happen, don’t imagine anything, just live in the present and appreciate the moment. And, of course, whenever you find yourself in a stressful situation, think about what you have, be grateful for the gifts you have received so far. Think about your family, those who care about you, about the nice moments spent together and you will surely relieve that tension. All in all, stress is extremely damaging and is unfortunately spreading, but solutions can be found as long as we are aware of the dangers and as long as there is an iron will to fight it.
